MICHAEL «MAD MIKE» and MICHAEL «MAD MIKE»

On February 2, 2020, the death of Michael Hoare was public information. Michael »Mad Mike» Hoare had passed away at an age of 100 years in Durban. When I got the news about his death, I misunderstood the news. I thought the news dealt with another «Mad Mike» - Michael «Mad Mike» Calvert. Two famous persons making use of the same nickname. The main reason for my mistake was my private interest in movies dealing with military and political issues. The plot of the movies must focus on issues that are common facts: The struggle and fight making an effort in controlling natural sources worldwide: The policy of most of the super powers like United States of America, the former imperialist countries like Great Britain, France, Soviet Union, and The Republic of China. Old fashioned foreign policy. The movie I was viewing was: « THE WILDE GEESE». The film had been released in 1978. My private interest for the movie was the plot of the film: The fight for the control of copper mining in a fictional country in Africa. What is going on in Africa today? The fight for the control of different natural sources in Africa is still an official policy of many countries. No peace so far. The movie was very popular in Great Britain and a commercial success worldwide.

But Michael» Mad Mike» Calvert was not the «Mad Mike» I was thinking about. No. Thomas Michael Hoare was born in 1919 and died in 2020. He was worldwide known as «Mad Mike Hoare». As technical adviser for the movie, he was hired  because of his military experiences. He was an Irish mercenary leader, an adventurer, famous for his actions during WWII, for his military activities in Africa and for his attempt to conduct a coup d’etat in the Seychelles.

«THE WILD GEESE» was directed by Andrew V. McLaglen. The film was based on an unpublished novel titled:» THE THIN WHITE LINE» by Daniel Carney. On the list of actors I like to pay attention to: Richard Burton, Richard Harris, Hardy Kruger, Roger More , and finally: Anna Bergman who is the daughter of the late Swedish film director Ingmar Bergman. The official report of the work of Anna Bergman shows that she has appeared as a performer in several British comedies during the late 1970s. In 1982 she appeared in her father’s  famous film.» FANNY AND ALEXANDER».

«THE WILD GEESE» was released in year 1978, but you can view the movie in 2020 because the plot is dealing with issues of great interest for political dedicated persons of today- I think.
