MENTON: BEACH LIBRARY AND A SCULPTURE

Menton is a commune in the Alpes-Maritimes Department in Provence-Aples-Cote d'Azur region in southerneastern France. The city is situated on the French Riviera. On the beach of the city you find a public beach Library. During my study for my Degree in librarianship in Oslo, Norway in year 1970, the topic of setting up public libraries around in the country was on the agenda. Why not move the collections of books to sites where you find people? Railway stations, airports, public parks, schooles, beaches where sites suggested as new sites for the books. The year now is 2013. Menton was visited because the city is nice.The beach  of the city is splendid. I was surprised to see a public library set up close to the beach. The work for my Degree in librarianship and the talks among dedicted librarians 37 years ago were brought to my mind. Splendid. What about getting access to video and dvd? It is also a possibility on the beach of Menton. Close to the library, a sculpture was put up for public use. The sculpture is called: " Ulysses "(2000). The name of the sculptor is Anna Chromy. She is a painter and sculptor born in Czech Republic in 1940. Anna Chromy is educated at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Literature and sculptor put together in nice harmony close to the beach of Menton. Art in open air and free for all to view and use. When you pay the city of Menton a visit in the future, take a look at the sculpture close to the beach. Art is best in open air and not in museums where you have to accept a limited time for the visit.
