…ONLY WRITTEN TO MAKE ME REMEMBER PERSONS WHO MADE AN IMPRESSION FOR YEARS… …MEMORY OF THREE PERSONS WHO LEFT US TOO EARLY…
Nobody asked you the question why you all left us without permission? We miss you all even in 2026.We
miss the story and the news about your many activities published wordwide. The
persons who inspired many, in many fields are not among us any more – sorry .The
missing persons are: Katharine Hepburn, Simone de Beauvoir and above all: Beryl
Markham- women only – but forgotten.
WHAT QUALIFICATIONS AND INTERESTS DID THEY HAVE IN COMMON?
The main keywords for them all are easy to report: Courage,
both physical and mental, personal freedom, independent, and above all: The love
of life and a positive approach to life and challenges. An American actress, a French
philospher and writer, and a British aviator/bush pilot and adventurer. – all made history by being very
activ in fields of common interest.
THE PURPOSE WITH AVAKENING FORGOTTEN PERSONS- THE SEARCH OF
OLD NORWEGIAN ENCYCLOPAEDIAS
The main aim of my private and limited study is to find out if the persons mentioned are reported in books for public
information.Let us make a short persentation of the missing ladies.
BERYL MARKHAM (1902- 1986)
An aviator, bush pilot in Africa, racehorse trainer in
Kenya, author and an adventurer. Famous for her solo crossing from Abingdon in
Southern England to Cap Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canada, by plane on
September 4, 1936. Her memoir was published in 1942. The title of the book is:
«West with the Night». She has also written short stories collected in «The
splendid Outcast». In 1952 she moved back to Kenya. Her many love affairs were
of interest for the internation press and newspapers for years.
KATHARINE HEPBURN (1907-2003)
A famous American actress. Educated from Bryn Mawn College
where she studied history and philosophy. She took part in about 45 movies. The
lady was a strong personality, independent and a member of the Democatic Party.
Common for both Beryl and Katharine were the newspapers interest in their
private life and love affaires.
SIMONE DE BEAUVOIR (1908- 1986)
Famous French writer, philosopher, and also international
known for her relationship with the French philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre. « le
deuxiem sexe» - « det annet kjønn» is the title of her most famous work. She
published 6 novels, 8 essays, 7 memoirs, 2 short stories. She made her love
affairs known without any restrictions. Her relationship with Jean-Paul Sartre
was good news for any newspaper worldwide. The American writer Nelson Algren (1909-1981)adored
her, lived with her, and made the love information for all wordwide.
THE LIMITED SEARCH IN OLD AND FORGOTTEN NORWEGIAN ENCYCLOPAEDIA
My main interest in 2026 was a limited study if those ladies are mentioned at
all in the old and forgotten books for common interest. Remember! – during the
years after the Second Word War most families in Norway had at least two books
for daily use: «FAMILIEBOKA.Verket om virkelighetens eventyr. 1955.», and «Gyldendals
Store Konversasjonsleksikon. 1972». All information of interest for most of us
was to be found in the books. I was not surprised for finding two of the
mentioned ladies reported. But one was not mentioned at all: Beryl Markham.
Searching in Wikipedia gave me positive results of all of them. To cross the
Atlantic Ocean solo by a woman was in the past not so interesting, apart for
people who loved planes and personal challengers.
