THE FORGOTTEN SOURCE - THE MOVIES

RESEARCH WORK: Movies as a
source for the research.
A forgotten source when you wants shots of certain aircrafts and cars like FIAT - Topolino
,a dress, a bottle and so on?
To find the shot of wanted
scenes, you have to work hard making the content of the catalogue reliable. The film
" Head in the Clouds " is not a film about cars. It is a good film.
The screenplay focuses on the choices young lovers must make
surrounded by increasing political unrest in late - 1930s Europe. And you find my favorite car in the film too.

This example on where to find footage where you don´t expect to find it in the first place reminds me also of an example with using fiction films.
I gave a presentation at the 2003 CAVIC Conference i Kingston Jamaica on where to find parts of the Caribbean audiovisual heritage in overseas archives. I used a (Swedish) fiction film (Under fulla segel, 1951) from the early 50:ies where the story took place on several Caribbean islands. In this film you could find long scenes of both rural and urban environments. You can see some stills in my powepoint at: http://www.sam.fiatifta.org/restricted/kingston_2003/West_Indies.pdf
